Even if you have the will to work on yourself and better your mental health, it can be hard to know where to begin. My ten favorite bloggers share their best mental health tips to get you started!
9 headshots of bloggers who share their best mental health tips

Two weeks ago I contacted my favorite bloggers and asked them to help me out with this article. All of these wonderful women have their own writing style and way to handle things and I feel so blessed I got to befriend them!

What I think is great is that every single one of them gave me a different tip. That is how versatile the human mind is; what's right for you, might not be right for the person next to you. And what's right for you now, might not be right for you in six months.

We are ever changing and evolving and developing different needs, which is why I wanted to compile all of these tips and ideas in one place. Make sure to save this article so if you become stuck in a rut, you can come back and find inspiration!

My best tip would be to increase your self-awareness and learn more about what your mind and body needs. I do this through journaling and meditation, but anything that helps you become more aware of your thoughts and feelings is great.

Catherine from The Blissful Mind

One thing I constantly remind myself is that everything is temporary. When I'm having a bad day or a spout of negative thoughts, I simply try to remind myself that I won't feel this way forever. It might sound cliche, but it really does help me to keep going when times are tough.

My best mental health tip is to express gratitude, focus on your strengths, and surround yourself with supportive individuals. I know that's like three different things but they're all so important for keeping a positive mindset which is so important for mental health! It's so important to have strong supportive relationships with a few people who know you very well and know what you're going through. You need to be able to talk to someone when you're feeling down and if you just need to vent about something!

Talk to yourself every day in a loving and kind way. We all have a never-ending dialog going on in our thoughts, that’s part of being human. Every day, perhaps even every minute of every day, we are evaluating ourselves against our own expectations. And when we fall
short, almost everyone has said something to themselves that was so harsh, they would never utter it aloud to another person. The problem is that we don’t usually realize how many negative messages we give ourselves each day. Negative thinking can become a bad habit. To break the habit, we need to learn ways to think positive or more realistic thoughts about ourselves.

Paula from Thirteen Thoughts

I think that one of the best mental health tips is knowing and realizing that your mental health is just as important as your physical health. It's important to look after yourself and your emotional well-being and make time just for yourself, practicing some quality self-care. Treat yourself with kindness, love, and respect -- the same way you'd treat a close friend.

Christine from The (mostly) Simple Life

My tip is to continually work on your mental health. I've tried all kinds of different things to help with my depression and anxiety: sun lamps, exercise, supplements, books, diet change, and so much more! Some of these have helped a great deal, others not so much. But I keep learning and trying because mental health is crazy-important and it takes some effort to find what makes a difference for you.

Valerie from Valerie Wong Wellness

I think one of the absolute best things we can do for our mental health is to consistently get enough quality sleep. There’s a growing body of research showing that adequate sleep has a huge impact on our emotional, mental and physical wellbeing – so it’s like a 3-for-1 self-care practice! Being well rested helps restore your emotional and physical resilience so that you’re better equipped to cope with the stressors and triggers that come your way. And as a bonus, it’s completely free!

Best mental health tip: To balance work with plenty of time for your mind + body to recharge because you can't pour from an empty cup! Prioritize your mental + physical health by giving yourself enough downtime every single week to recharge, even if it's only 15 minutes a day to yourself (and everyone, no matter HOW busy, can find 15 minutes!). Plus, the better you feel, the better you'll be able to do everything else.

Faith from Radical Transformation Project

My best mental health tip is to write a gratitude list every day. I suffered from clinical depression for over ten years before I decided to try and get help and improve my life. After years of having dark and negative thoughts, I have had to work really hard to re-wire my brain to focus on the good things in my life. One of the ways I have done that is by writing a list every night of all the good things that happened that day that I am thankful for. This practice has made my brain look for things to be thankful for throughout the day because I know I have to write a list later that night. Life has become so much easier now that my mind is naturally looking for things to be happy about instead of always focusing on the negative things that happen.

Anni from Solutions to All Your Problems

Put. Your. Brain. In. Flow.

The most direct route to making life feel better is to do more things that feel good.  Things that you look forward to doing. Things that you truly and purely enjoy. Things that you feel passionate about. Things that make you lose track of time. Things that put your brain “in flow” or “in the zone.”

There are only two things that stand in your way.

The first is not knowing what your “thing” is. So do everything in your power to find it. Take personality tests, do self awareness exercises, try different activities and see how they make you feel.

The second is going along with society’s “shoulds.” We get all kinds of messages about who we should be and how we should act and what we should value.  Tune out those messages. Decide what you want and go after it. Become the boss of your own life.
Challenge: Pick one of these ideas and spend the next two weeks implementing it in your life.

Love these tips. The one tip I've found the most useful is to admit where you are right now, rather than wishing you were something else in the future. It definitely helps when you can accept yourself as you are right now, good and bad!

Hi Emily, I definitely agree with you! Making peace with who and where you are is so important. A good thing that can come out of thinking about what you wish you'll be in the future though is this; if you know where you want to be, you can start taking steps toward that right now. :)
