Quick selfcare tip: Make it aesthetic

A quick tip for selfcare is to make it aesthetically pleasing -- both to pamper yourself and encourage you to do it.

I recently saw a video of a girl saying how she did NOT feel like doing anything that day. She did not want to get ready for the day, did not want to do selfcare, did not want to do things to make herself feel better. But she forced herself to do it "for the aesthetic" -- she lit candles, played relaxing music, put on a face mask, and did what you would see an influencer do a video of. She didn't film it or anything, just did it for herself in the only way that worked that day.

And it really reminded me of things I do to make selfcare feel cozy and pretty:
  • I got a vintage teapot at the thrift store for my daily green tea
  • I use unique ceramic mugs for my morning bone broth
  • I have a pretty rose quartz jade roller to use in my skincare routine
  • I have a vanity where I keep my skincare products and jewelry, so I can sit comfortably and feel fancy getting ready
  • I have cozy blankets everywhere to cuddle up under (including light airy ones for summer)
  • I have handmade coconut oil candles from the farmer's market in my reading spot

Keep your home decluttered and intentional

It can feel like you have to spend a lot of money to make it look nice, but the majority of my wardrobe and decor is from the thrift store, the jade roller was $20 on Amazon, and simply keeping surfaces decluttered can make a huge difference in creating a calming mood. I only keep the products I use daily collected in a white porcelain tray on the vanity, with jewelry and less used items like hair cutting scissors hidden in the drawer.

Your living space can really reflect your mood and even affect it. When I am not doing well it very quickly shows in the lack of cleaning and laundry getting done, and the mess in turn makes me feel worse and more overwhelmed. Cleaning can be a great way to ease anxiety and get yourself out of a funk.

So have a few cozy rituals and small ways to pamper yourself. If it's routine you may be able to do it just because it's a habit, and by pretending you're doing a selfcare routine to inspire thousands of followers you may be encouraged to do it even when you really don't feel like it --  can't disappoint the fans (even if the fan is yourself)!
